Executive Leadership
Joseph J. Porfeli, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Porfeli joined the high technology industry in 1968 and has successfully led four emerging growth companies as CEO — bringing two through IPO, and selling two to public companies. Most recently, Mr. Porfeli served as CEO, Software & Information Technologies, for Spencer Trask & Company, a New York investment bank. Immediately prior to Spencer Trask, Mr. Porfeli was CEO of TechRx, a software company serving the needs of pharmacies, where he grew the company into the largest provider of pharmacy software solutions in North America. Other CEO tenures include: REVIVE Technologies, a software/services company; Surefind, a software company dedicated to data security; and EIS International, a hardware/ software company that automates call centers. Mr. Porfeli previously held senior level management positions at Centex Telemanagement, US Sprint, GTE Telenet, CompuServe and ComShare.
Kerien “Fitz” Fitzpatrick, Founder and Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Fitzpatrick has over 20 years experience in the application of advanced robotics to practical business solutions. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Mr. Fitzpatrick was co-founder of the NASA-sponsored National Robotics Engineering Consortium in 1994. He went on to become CTO of Tpresence, an Internet computing technologies company; Managing Partner of Mammoth Ventures; and co-founder of HyperActive Technologies. Mr. Fitzpatrick received the Allen Newell Award for Research Excellence from Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science in 1997.
Dr. R. Craig Coulter, Founder and Chief Scientist
Dr. Coulter is a robotics scientist focused on the commercialization of intelligent robotics technologies. He began his work at the National Robotics Engineering Consortium (NREC), where he organized a project with Ford Motor Company to commercialize a revolutionary vision-based position estimation system that he co-invented. He co-founded Highlander Systems, Inc., a vision systems engineering company; Tpresence, Inc., an early distributed computing company, where he served as CEO; and Mammoth Ventures, a firm focused on the development of new robotics-related intellectual property, where he currently serves as Managing Partner. In 2001, Dr. Coulter co-founded HyperActive Technologies, Inc. Dr. Coulter holds a Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science, as well as three other engineering degrees from Carnegie Mellon.
Frank Guarnaccio, Vice President of Finance
Mr. Guarnaccio has more than 20 years of senior financial management experience in firms providing technologies for industries including pharmaceuticals, insurance, and industrial process automation. Prior to joining HyperActive Technologies, he was involved in financial analysis and planning in the fast-growth, merger and acquisition environment characterized by TechRx’s expansion from a firm with 30 employees, one location and $2 million in revenue, to a firm with 400 employees, six locations, and $50 million in revenue. He held a similar role in subsequent merger activity with NDC Health and Per Se Technologies. He also held senior financial management positions with Revive Technologies, ASE Limited, and Daxus Corporation, where he participated in the management buyout of Daxus from Dravo Corporation. Mr. Guarnaccio holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Managerial Accounting from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana, PA. HyperActive Technologies is the third company he has worked for where Mr. Porfeli has been the C.E.O.
Scott Marentay, Vice President of Operations
Mr. Marentay brings 15 years of restaurant management experience to the executive team, from various single and multiunit operations. In 1996, Mr. Marentay moved into restaurant supply by playing a key role in the creation of the Equipment Department at The Coffee Beanery, Inc. He moved into the restaurant technology field in 2000, as the Customer Service Manager of the Pittsburgh Regional Offic of MICROS Systems, Inc. He was responsible for creating and refining the processes behind implementation, support and field service as the office grew to handle more than 1000 sites in Western Pennsylvania and Eastern Ohio. At HyperActive Technologies, Mr. Marentay has built the solid support, order fulfillment, product development, and quality assurance teams that provide our customers with products, service and support that is unparalleled in our field. Mr. Marentay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Toronto, Canada.
